About Roger

As a dual US/UK citizen, born in Cheltenham, England during World War II, I've lived most of my life in the US, and now live on the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean.

Growing up as an Army brat, I moved every few years until I was 17. As an adult I continued to move around the US. So, I've learned to adapt and appreciate different places, climates and people. Now I live in Europe. I miss many things about the US, but not the divisive politics, nor the people who practice them.

I love to travel. It's good for people, but we must be careful during this pandemic. The scenery and culture of the Pacific Northwest, especially Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington are spectacular. Picturesque Abingdon, England, where I lived in 2021 fueled my interest in history and archaeology. Now, there are plenty of archaeological sites to explore around Paphos on Cyprus.

My wife, Charlyn, is pursuing a Doctorate in Sanskrit at the University of Hamburg. After living in Germany for 5 years, she has joined me in Cyprus, working to complete her thesis.

Current Interests

Photography

Photography is an enduring hobby I have enjoyed most of my life, with little to show in artistry or technical prowess. Still, I enjoy it and you can see some of my favorite images in the Photos section.

History

While interested in archaeology and anthropology for a long time, I've never before been interested in "history". Learn more in the History section.

Photogrammetry

Photogrammetry is the process of obtaining detailed information about physical objects and their environment through photography or other imaging techniques to generate an accurate three-dimensional representation. Learn more about my interest in the Photogrammetry section.

Language

Primarily stemming from my wife's interests in Tibetan and Sanskrit, view the Tibetan/English dictionary and other resources in the Tibetan section.

Web Design

My first job as a programmer was back when we described our industry as "data processing". Lots of changes since 1968. Like many people my Web skills are self-taught. I'm still learning, and enjoying it more than ever. Explore my interest in the Web Design section.

Site Organization
(or lack of it)

This website is a work in progress, driven by changes in the relative priorities of my major interests and ongoing education in website design.

The major areas of the site are reflected in the main navigation menu appearing just under the header of every page. The page you are viewing is highlighted.
